We would like to give our readers the opportunity to support ShowBizRadio directly through a membership.

We (Mike and Laura Clark) started ShowBizRadio as a side business in August 2005. Our little podcast review service covering community theater in Northern Virginia has grown into a full-time job managing a collection of sites which feature complete audition listings, searchable performance calendars, a cross-reference of all local theatre companies and their production histories, an Internet radio station, as well as reviews, news stories and interviews. Since April 2007, ShowBizRadio has been a proud supporter of the Cappies high school theatre program. ShowBizRadio covers theatre throughout the metropolitan Washington DC region; the entire state of Maryland; Richmond, Virginia; the St. Louis, Missouri region; and North Dakota.

We each spend at least thirty hours per week maintaining the information resources and publishing new articles. The income generated by selling banner advertising to theatre companies breaks down that we earn less than $1/hour. Our expenses include paying the government (taxes), our writers (each writer receives a stipend for each article published), and other bills (such as web hosting, database programming, domain name registrations, bank, legal, and postal fees).

We would like to give our readers the opportunity to support ShowBizRadio directly through a membership. Membership fees will enable us to continue maintaining and growing the SBR web sites.

Access to the existing ShowBizRadio.com sites will not change.

Details and a sign-up form are at ShowBizRadio.org. Thank you!

ShowBizRadio is looking for writers to help increase our coverage area as we continue to expand across the United States throughout 2012.

ShowBizRadio is looking for writers to help increase our coverage area as we continue to expand across the United States throughout 2012. Articles could be either reviews, interviews, or shadowing a production through the rehearsal process. We are also looking for people interested in writing columns to be published on a regular schedule.

If you’d like to review productions, you need to have a love of live theater and the ability to share your opinions in a clear, unbiased way. Reviews can be as long as necessary to get your thoughts across. Interviews can be done in person or over the phone. Most theater companies are accommodating when it comes to scheduling. Shadowing a production means you would sit in on rehearsals and design meetings and document the process of creating a show. If you are involved in a show, shadowing is an opportunity for you to get the word out about the production.

We do pay a nominal amount for each article that is published. We also post a brief biography that is attached at the end of each published article, giving exposure to your next project or personal website. All articles published on the ShowBizRadio web site must be under your real name.

If you would like more information about becoming a part of ShowBizRadio, please send an email with the word “Writing” included in the subject line. Tell us a bit about yourself, and please include your professional and theatrical resume.

While ShowBizRadio.net is not going 100% dark for the day, we would like to urge you to contact your members of Congress to let them know your thoughts of those bills. ShowBizRadio has been affected by piracy and copyright infringements in the past. But these bills go too far in trying to address this issue.

Learn about the bills with this video:

Looking for a Christmas show?

If you are looking for a Christmas-themed show to attend, check out the ShowBizRadio Christmas Performance Calendar. We’ve listed every Christmas related show play or musical we could find. Yes, all eleven versions of A Christmas Carol (including a one-man show) and three different ways to tell the story of George Bailey in It’s a Wonderful Life (also including a one-man show!) are included. There are many other shows listed, all over the DC metro area. So when your family and friends are visiting, and you don’t want to go shopping, take them to a show.

A couple of people have wondered about the ad we’re running for Christmas Music 24/7. Christmas Music 24/7 is a network of Internet radio stations playing Christmas music year-round. We have made seven different styles of Christmas music available. Those stations’ success helps keep ShowBizRadio running. Several stations are listed in the iTunes radio directory. Check the religious category, then look for Christmas 24/7. So tune in, and tell your friends.

We have slowly been expanding the regions that ShowBizRadio covers. Our original coverage area was Northern Virginia. Later we expanded into Washington DC and central Maryland. A few months ago, we launched a site covering the Baltimore, Maryland region. And now, we are moving into the St. Louis region.

We have started working on our cross-referenced index of theatre companies and shows. We also will be posting audition announcements and performance schedules. Please send your announcements to us.

We also sell advertising on the site. Contact us for details on pricing and availability.

The coverage area will include theatres located in: St. Louis City, St. Louis County, Jefferson County, Franklin County, St. Charles County (all in Missouri), and St. Clair County, Madison County, and Monroe County (all in illinois). If there are other counties we should consider to be part of this site, please let us know.

We are looking forward to getting to know more about the great theaters in St. Louis.

Here is a quick note to let you know that we’ve upgraded how we display information in our calendars. Instead of a list, you can now see entire months at a time, and can easily filter out shows. The audition calendar lists all auditions for the next year. The performance calendar lists all productions for the next year, and you can filter by date (through the next year), type of show (All shows, musicals, plays), and shows performed by type of groups (professional, community, children, or high school). And if we’re missing your show’s performance details, send us the info and we’ll get it added. Check the calendars out and let us know what you think.

ATCA works: to foster greater communication among theatre critics in the United States and abroad; to improve the training and development of critics at different stages of their careers; to advocate absolute freedom of expression in theatre and theatre criticism; and to increase public awareness of the theatre as an important national resource. As ShowBizRadio continues to grow, we are excited to learn more about theatre from other theatre reviewers and critics.
